Shadowtrains heading out to Tinaja new mexico to play our first concert as a full band. The event is a “music Is medicine” event which as non profit organisation set up by our friend pony stone to bring awareness and help to native youth through music.
The location is awe inspiring , over looking el Moro and inscription rock which is inscribed with 100′s of petroglyphs and inscriptions of Spanish conquistadors ( notably ornate) who traveled through here over the lady 500 years
Tinaja is centrally located between all the pueblo Indian territories ( hopi, zuni, acoma , laguna and isleta ) as well as Navajo and apache tribes and was and is a hub for trade and culture
We shared the stage with many native metal bands (testify, saving damsels and ethnic degeneration as well as chuckie and ritchies band)
ShadowTrain hit the stage over looking the cliffs of el Moro, the dramatic monsoon skies with a crescent moon hanging above and a huge bonfire raging below us. We played 6 ofournewsongs, little wing and ended with another new song called “trail of tears”. Chuckie Begay joined us on stage and sang a verse and helped out the the native chants. Gabe and I played acoustic gates and donny played his keys through his old Leslie speaker and added synth strings as well…this is the song john trudell wrote spoken word verses for and performed on our album (which were still working on)
Gregg Anaya went stream of consciousness on us and sang his own spoken word verses in his native karas tongue. It was very inspired and beautiful. There was much joy and some tears A very powerfully moment and a fitting culmination to our journey of hope and adventure
We interviewed a native councilman (who’s also the drummer of testify and father of guitar player!) around the bonfire. Gregg Anaya conducted that interview
The rest of the night we spent keeping the fires going and sharing food and conversation with the warm glow of our shared experience in our hearts
